An honest guide to Canada's casino resorts

Northern Stakes helps adults plan a getaway at one of Canada's land-based casino resorts, whether that's a weekend by the Falls or a château stay in Charlevoix. We're a small, independent team based in Toronto, Ontario.

What we cover

We only cover fully licensed, land-based casino resorts in Canada that you visit in person. Our reviews focus on the trip: the hotel, spa, golf, restaurants, show venues, and how to get there. We don't promote gambling, and there is no way to gamble on or through this site.

How we review

Each resort is scored out of 5 on its rooms, dining, entertainment, setting and value. Where a venue has no hotel, we leave the rooms score out. Scores are our editorial opinion. They draw on the resort's own published information, provincial and tourism sources, and our judgement of how the whole stay fits together.

Facts such as addresses, phone numbers, hours, room counts and facilities are checked against published sources, mostly the resort's own pages. We record the date we last checked on every review. When sources disagree, we go with the resort's most recent information. If a resort doesn't publish something, we say so rather than guess.

Independence

We are not owned by, affiliated with or paid by any resort, casino operator or provincial gaming corporation. Resorts can't pay for a review, a better score or a place on a list. We don't run affiliate links, and we don't link to gambling operators or venue websites.
