La Malbaie, Québec · Independent review
Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu
Canada's most romantic casino resort. The casino is the smallest part of the stay; the château, the clifftop golf and the St. Lawrence views are why you come.

The resort
The first Manoir Richelieu was built in 1899. After it burned in 1928, it was rebuilt in 1929 in the French château style to designs by John Smith Archibald. It hosted the G7 summit in June 2018 and received a MICHELIN Key in 2025. Loto-Québec now markets the hotel and casino together as the Hôtel-Casino de Charlevoix.
The Casino de Charlevoix opened on June 24, 1994 in the Manoir's former summer playhouse, linked to the hotel by an underground passage. It was Québec's first casino connected to a hotel. In the evenings, the Cité Mémoire Charlevoix projection plays on its facade.
Rooms and stay
The château has 405 rooms and suites, including 10 accessible rooms and the La Seigneurie presidential suite. Check-in is at 4 pm and check-out at 11 am. The wellness centre has heated indoor and outdoor pools, a steam bath and whirlpools.
Spa
Moment Spa offers treatments in the hotel.
Golf
The Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu Golf Club has 27 holes (three nines) on rolling hills above the St. Lawrence. Herbert Strong designed it, and it opened on June 18, 1925 with former US President William H. Taft in attendance. The season runs from May to October.

There's a via ferrata on the rock face below the hotel, a zipline, nine-hole mini-golf, ATV and snowmobile tours, plus skating and snowshoeing in winter. The casino bars host DJs and comedy nights rather than big-ticket shows.
Getting there
La Malbaie is about 150 km northeast of Québec City, under 90 minutes' drive from Québec City Jean-Lesage International Airport. The public shuttle is suspended until further notice, so plan on driving.

Accessibility
The hotel and casino are accessible for guests with limited mobility. Wheelchairs can be borrowed at the coat check (they can't be reserved), and the hotel has 10 wheelchair-accessible rooms.
