Halifax, Nova Scotia · Independent review
Casino Nova Scotia
A compact, friendly harbourfront venue with a good-sized theatre. It suits an evening out during a Halifax trip rather than a weekend in itself.

The venue
Casino Nova Scotia opened on June 1, 1995 in a temporary space at the Sheraton Halifax and moved into its purpose-built waterfront building on April 24, 2000. Part of the building stands over water about 21 metres deep. It is run by Great Canadian Entertainment.
A move is planned. In January 2026 the province and Great Canadian announced that the Halifax casino will relocate to a new building at Dartmouth Crossing. The waterfront venue stays open until then. No official opening date has been given; media reports suggest 2029.
Where to stay
There's no hotel on site, but an indoor pedway connects the casino to the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront next door, and on to Purdy's Wharf, Scotia Square and the downtown core.
Opening hours
The main floor is open daily from 2 pm to 3 am.
Dining
- 3Sixty: restaurant and lounge with live bands, a seafood buffet on Fridays and prime rib on Saturdays
- May Garden: an on-site restaurant with its own menu
